Remembering Jim Gatz

Jim Gatz, born on May 22, 1956, in LaPorte, Indiana, passed away on December 5, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. As the youngest of four siblings, he leaves behind his devoted wife Betsy, children Katherine and Jonathan, and two sisters, Melodie and Linda. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Jerry. Jim attended Purdue University and later transferred to Pratt Institute, earning his architecture degree and becoming a registered architect in 1983. He enjoyed a successful career, including 24 years at Hobbs+Black in Ann Arbor, where he advanced to Senior Vice President. Active in his community, Jim served on the Ann Arbor Historic District Commission and was involved with St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, as well as coaching youth sports. He had a passion for gardening and mentoring young professionals, often approaching complex issues with humor and clarity. Visitation is scheduled for December 27, 2022, and a funeral service will follow on December 28 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Memorial contributions can be made in his honor to local charitable organizations.
